North Carolina Adolescent Health Summit

On December 15, 2009, the North Carolina Metamorphosis Project, North Carolina Institute of Medicine (NCIOM), and other collaborating organizations hosted a one-day Summit at The Carolina Inn in Chapel Hill, North Carolina.

At the summit, the NCIOM Task Force on Adolescent Health Report, Healthy Foundations for Healthy Youth and Action for Children North Carolina's Listening to Parents' Perspectives on Adolescent Health report were released. Additionally, summit participants also helped identify strategies to implement the Task Force recommendations to improve adolescent health at both the state and local levels.

More on the North Carolina Metamorphosis Project: Recognizing the current gap in coordinated efforts aimed at improving the health of North Carolina adolescents, The Duke Endowment awarded funding to the North Carolina Multidisciplinary Adolescent Research Consortium and Coalition for Health (NC MARCH) More Between 10 and 20 Adolescent Health Initiative, now known as the North Carolina Metamorphosis Project (NCMP). NCMP is a collaborative effort of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill (UNC-CH) School of Medicine and Gillings School of Global Public Health, NC MARCH, the North Carolina Institute of Medicine (NCIOM), the North Carolina Division of Public Health, and Action for Children North Carolina. The goal of the NCMP is to increase awareness of unmet health needs of North Carolinians between 10 and 20 years of age and to produce and implement evidence-based recommendations to improve services, programs, and policies to address the high-priority health needs of this age group over the next decade. Children between ages 10 and 20 have health needs that are in many ways different than the health needs of other age groups. In 2008 The Duke Endowment funded a three-year project to increase awareness of the unmet needs of North Carolinians age 10-20, and to develop an evidence-based roadmap for better addressing high-priority health needs of these young people between 2010 and 2020. Encouraging and supporting the implementation of this roadmap will be the primary goal of the newly created N.C. Metamorphosis Project (NCMP).
