The 2015 Annual Meeting was held on August 28, 2015, at the McKimmon Center, NCSU. Please see below for additional information about the Annual Meeting.

North Carolina, with a strong agricultural tradition and growing commitment to food sustainability, has a great opportunity to explore how food policy can influence and improve the health and well-being of North Carolinians. The NCIOM 2015 Annual Meeting focused on several aspects of food policy, including the intersections between food policy and the environment, economic growth, and nutrition. Our keynote speaker was Kathleen Merrigan, Ph.D., Executive Director of Sustainability at the George Washington University, where she leads the GW Sustainability Collaborative, GW Food Institute, and serves as Professor of Public Policy. Morning and afternoon breakout sessions led by experts from North Carolina addressed health system challenges relevant to specific stakeholders in the state. Breakout session topics include food safety, hunger, obesity, regulation, environment/sustainability, and economic development. Please see final agenda here.

At the NCIOM 2015 Annual Meeting, we presented the inaugural North Carolina Institute of Medicine Award for Excellence in Health Policy Leadership.  This award recognizes an individual who has made a significant contribution to health policy in North Carolina. The 2015 award was presented to Mr. Allen Smart, interim president, Kate B. Reynolds Charitable Trust.
