Sharon Schiro, PhD
Vice President

Dr. Schiro will help to staff health reform workgroups on prevention, health professional workforce, quality, and fraud and abuse. She is an Associate Professor in the Department of Surgery, University of North Carolina School of Medicine, and has worked with the Injury and Violence Prevention Branch of the North Carolina Division of Public Health as an Injury Surveillance Consultant. In these roles she has been responsible for development of software for automated reporting, facilitation of research on injury, and data system development, management, and analysis. The focus of her work has been the development and utilization of data systems for cancer research, trauma care, trauma systems, and injury prevention. She was the principal investigator and the Director of the North Carolina Trauma Registry from 2000-2007.

Dr. Schiro graduated with a doctorate in bioengineering from the University of Washington in Seattle in February 1993. She obtained her masters degree in Bioengineering from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, OH in 1980, and her bachelors in Physics from Florida State University in 1978.
