Mark Holmes is the Vice President of the North Carolina Institute of Medicine.
Under the direction of the President, he helps direct the overall work of the Institute including
programmatic activities such as Task Force work as well ensuring efficient business operation.
Dr. Holmes's responsibilities include all NC IOM statistical analyses, either in direct support of
Task Force work, as part of the NC IOM's rapid response capability, or limited ad hoc analyses
in response to public inquiries. He is also the Co-Director of the Program on Healthcare Economics
and Finance at the Cecil G. Sheps Center for Health Services Research at UNC-Chapel Hill,
an adjunct faculty member in the Department of Health Policy and Administration at the UNC School
of Public Health, and an Associate Editor of the North Carolina Medical Journal.
He currently serves on the North Carolina Health Insurance Risk Pool Board of Directors
and the North Carolina General Assembly Advisory Commission on Hospital Infection Control
and Disclosure. He received a B.S. in Mathematics and Economics from Michigan State University
and a Ph.D. in Economics from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
