Kimberly M. Alexander-Bratcher, MPH
Project Director
Kimberly Alexander-Bratcher is a Project Director at the North Carolina Institute of Medicine (NCIOM), where she is coordinating projects focused on awareness and prevention of chronic kidney disease and the ongoing Safety Net Advisory Council. Ms. Alexander-Bratcher serves as the NCIOM reviewer for the community health grants for the Office of Rural Health and Community Care and a member of the Old North State Medical Society State Disaster Preparedness Program Disparities Prevention Team. She writes the Spotlight on the Safety Net series for the North Carolina Medical Journal, will translate selected reports into Spanish, and also helps to staff Task Forces examining the impact of low health literacy on access to healthcare, the predicted shortage of healthcare professionals in primary care and certain specialty areas, and the ethical guidelines that the Division of Public Health should use to make decisions during the emergence of a pandemic influenza.
Prior to her work at the NCIOM, Ms. Alexander-Bratcher served as Executive Director of Pitt County Care, Inc., an organization that operates volunteer-run free medical clinics with a focus on migrant workers and their families. She earned a Master in Public Health degree from the Brody School of Medicine at East Carolina University in July 2006. In the Predoctoral Division of the Department of Family Medicine at Brody, Ms. Alexander-Bratcher served as the Cultural Specialist for a grant to increase cultural competency and sensitivity of medical students to Latino patients. She has traveled extensively including two visits to Cuba for Health Sciences and Clinical Medicine Practica through the Medical Education Cooperation with Cuba as the International Health Programming Coordinator on the Board of Directors of the Student National Medical Association and a semester in Salamanca, Spain During her graduate education, Ms. Alexander-Bratcher worked as a professional Spanish interpreter and translator. She earned a B.A. in Spanish, a minor in Chemistry, and Certificate of Spanish for Business from Wake Forest University in May 2000. Ms. Alexander-Bratcher is an active member of the American Public Health Association and is currently preparing for the American Translators Association Certification Exam.
